Truth in Jazz is an 18 piece big band formed in 1998 by Truth Publisher David Ogle with help of Steve Pettit and under the direction of Gay Burton. The band is currently under the direction of Steve Allen, our lead trumpet player and a charter member of the band.
Truth in Jazz has performed for 12 years at the Elkhart Jazz Festival, on several occasions at the Elkhart County Fair, First Friday’s in Goshen, Red Cross Wine Tasting Fundraiser at Elcona, RV Fest, for several area parks and recreation programs, and other events throughout the Michiana Area. The band’s form is based on what has become the standard of big band instrumentation: that developed by the great Count Basie: 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, 5 saxes, Bass, Piano, Guitar and Drums. TiJ continues in that tradition and adds new and fresh arrangements based on big band jazz standards.
